BEYOND MEDICINE—A HOLISTIC PERSPECTIVE
FAITH, GOOD DEEDS, AND LONGEVITY: ARE OBSERVERS OF THE BIBLE—MOSAIC LAWS—HEALTHIER AND HAPPIER THAN EVER?
“Mens sana in corpore sano”
Extensive scientific research indicates that cultivating spirituality or engaging in religious practices can meaningfully contribute to increased life expectancy. Notably, the beneficial effects of such involvement are comparable to those observed in individuals who make significant health-conscious decisions, such as refraining from smoking, drug use, and, in particular, alcohol consumption.
This segment will feature interviews with scientists, subject-matter experts, and individuals of faith to examine the determinants of longevity. From an academic perspective, holistic health is achieved by integrating spiritual practices (such as faith), prosocial behaviors (including altruism), and robust social relationships alongside conventional medical approaches.
Empirical research increasingly supports the view that faith, altruism (good deeds), and positive social connections contribute to reduced morbidity and increased life expectancy.
