From skilled workers to wealthy individuals: A new immigration paradigm

The (immigration) program diverts its emphasis from attracting skilled workers and entrepreneurs who significantly contribute to economic development and job creation, as evidenced by the current EB-5 program. Instead, it places priority on wealthy individuals based solely on their financial capabilities, which potentially diminishes the overall benefits to the economy and undermines the value of a highly skilled workforce.

WHAT HAPPENED: President Donald Trump’s $5 million U.S. visa is already making waves, even before its official debut. Dubbed the “Trump Card,” this exclusive visa program presents a rare opportunity for U.S. residency in exchange for a $5 million investment. With nearly 70,000 individuals pre-registering on a government-operated website, the level of interest is astounding. U.S. Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick noted, “Donald Trump has a keen eye for the card’s aesthetics… he genuinely cares about how it looks and feels.” This attention to detail transforms the Trump Card into more than just a visa; it becomes a powerful symbol of prestige and opportunity for those seeking a new life in the United States. Political comeback falls short: Cuomo loses NYC mayoral primary

WHAT HAPPENED: In 2025, Andrew Cuomo sought to revitalize his political career by running in the Democratic primary for mayor of New York City. Against all odds, he faced a formidable challenge and ultimately conceded defeat to Zohran Mamdani. While he did not secure the nomination, Cuomo’s campaign demonstrated his resilience and commitment to public service, highlighting the evolving political landscape of the city.

Young, bold, and ready for change: Zohran Mamdani’s mission for New York

WHAT HAPPENNED: Zohran Mamdani, a 33-year-old democratic socialist, is emerging as a formidable candidate in the U.S. political arena, positioning himself as the likely Democratic nominee for New York’s mayoral election this November. In a stunning display of grassroots support during the Democratic primary’s first round, Mamdani secured an impressive 43% of the vote, outpacing former New York Governor Andrew Cuomo, who received 36%.

Born in Uganda and relocating to New York at just seven years old, Mamdani became a U.S. citizen in 2018. He hails from a culturally rich background—his mother is a film director, while his father teaches at Columbia University. After earning a degree in Africana Studies from Bowdoin College in Maine, Mamdani dedicated himself to helping the community as a housing counselor in Queens, where he fought alongside low-income homeowners of color against eviction. This passion for advocacy ignited his political ambitions. In addition to his activism, Mamdani is known for his artistic talents, having performed as a rap artist under the name Mr. Cardamom.

(NY) Governor Hochul unveils Plans for upstate nuclear power facility, promotes energy independence

WHAT HAPPENED: Governor Kathy Hochul has announced a significant initiative to construct a new nuclear power plant in New York, representing the first major addition to the U.S. nuclear energy sector in over 15 years. This facility is anticipated to provide at least 1 gigawatt (GW) of clean energy and will be located in upstate New York, reinforcing the state’s commitment to upgrading its energy infrastructure. In her announcement, Governor Hochul instructed the New York Power Authority (NYPA) to spearhead the development and construction of a zero-emission advanced nuclear power plant.

She highlighted the necessity of ensuring a reliable and affordable electric grid as New York transitions toward a more sustainable energy future. “As New York electrifies its economy, decommissions aging fossil fuel plants, and attracts major manufacturers that create high-quality jobs, we must adopt an energy policy that emphasizes abundance,” stated Hochul. “This strategy is crucial for achieving energy independence and enhancing supply chain security, ensuring that New York maintains control over its energy future.” Although some advocates for renewable energy have raised concerns, this decision is seen as a vital step toward meeting the state’s energy demands and fostering a sustainable, resilient energy framework for all New Yorkers. Concerns and strategies: The divide among Trump supporters on U.S. military engagement

WHAT HAPPENED: The military actions undertaken by Trump have initiated extensive discussions among proponents of the “America First” program. While a segment of his supporters expresses valid concerns regarding the potential for increased U.S. involvement in foreign conflicts, another faction underscores the pressing threat that a nuclear-armed Iran represents to both the United States and its allied nations. These supporters contend that a strategic and measured military response is paramount in order to mitigate this substantial risk. They argue that such a response is not only necessary for the protection of American citizens but also critical for the preservation of U.S. interests on a global scale. In this context, the discourse surrounding military engagement becomes a pivotal topic, as it intertwines national security concerns with the broader implications of American foreign policy.

Military action vs. formal (war) declarations: Understanding presidential authority

ISSUE AT STAKE: The question of whether US Presidents can unilaterally declare war has been a contentious issue throughout American history. In practice, presidents frequently categorize military interventions as “military action,” utilizing authorizations for the use of military force (AUMF) as a legal framework to justify their decisions. These actions are often justified on the grounds of “national security,” allowing for a broad interpretation of military engagement without formal declarations of war.

Congress attempted to exert its constitutional authority over war powers with the passage of the War Powers Act in 1973, which aimed to ensure that both legislative and executive branches share the responsibility of committing the nation to armed conflict. This Act mandates that the president must consult with Congress before engaging in military action and must withdraw forces after a specified period unless Congress grants an extension. However, despite these legal constraints, numerous presidents have chosen to ignore or circumvent the provisions of the War Powers Act, raising critical questions about the balance of power and the executive’s role in military decision-making. This ongoing disregard for legislative oversight poses significant implications for American democracy and the fundamental principles of checks and balances that underpin the US political system.

(Iran before 1979) From progress to repression: The tumultuous era of the last Shah of Iran

WHAT HAPPENED: Mohammad Reza Pahlavi, the final Shah of Iran, reigned from 1941 until his ouster in the 1979 Iranian Revolution. Known simply as “the Shah,” his leadership is notable for ambitious modernization initiatives that aimed to propel Iran into the modern era. However, these efforts were undermined by escalating political repression, which fueled widespread resentment among the populace. This discontent ultimately led to his dramatic downfall, serving as a powerful reminder of the importance of balancing progress with freedom.

The Shah implemented crucial reforms that advanced gender equality, notably by granting women the right to vote, which facilitated their increasing participation in the workforce. The enactment of the Family Protection Act further enhanced women’s rights by allowing divorce and prohibiting marriage under the age of 15. Additionally, the Shah took a decisive step by banning the hijab, contending that it constrained women’s freedoms. During this pivotal period, social interactions between men and women became more integrated, and education was emphasized for the entire populace.

The Shah’s government fostered the development of new colleges, universities, and libraries, significantly enriching Iran’s educational landscape. By providing free secondary education and extending financial support to university students, the regime laid the groundwork for a more informed and egalitarian society.

Trump considers military action against Iranian nuclear facilities

President Donald Trump is considering the possibility of targeting Iranian nuclear enrichment facilities. The lesser-known Diego Garcia military base, strategically located in the Indian Ocean, offers a unique advantage. Surrounded by water yet in proximity to major conflict zones, it stands as one of the United States’ most closely guarded secrets. This vital operational hub is essential for any decisive military action against Iran, making it an invaluable asset in our national security strategy.

PINNED POST 2025

Is it ethical for Jake Tapper to leverage his CNN platform to promote his book, especially when doing so in a subtle or discreet way? This question deserves careful consideration

This situation raises concerns about a potential conflict of interest, as it may be seen as using his influence at CNN for personal gain. On the other hand, one could argue that this is a legitimate way to publicize his work and that CNN has the right to allow its employees to promote their books.

The book’s title is crafted to be eye-catching and possibly a bit dramatic, making it well-suited for attracting attention from media outlets such as the New York Post. The New York Post, FOX News, and The National Enquirer are frequently linked to “yellow journalism” because of their sensationalist style and emphasis on dramatic stories. “Yellow journalism” is defined by exaggerated news reporting that prioritizes sensationalism over rigorous investigative research.

“ORIGINAL SIN: PRESIDENT BIDEN’S DECLINE, ITS COVER-UP, AND HIS DISASTROUS CHOICE TO RUN AGAIN”: This book offers a striking insight into the state of President Biden’s health during his time in office. Audio recordings from Biden’s October 2023 interviews with special counsel Robert Hur, obtained by Axios, highlight instances, such as his difficulty recalling the year his son passed away and when Donald Trump was elected.

THE AUTHORS: Co-authored by Alex Thompson, a Harvard graduate with a bachelor’s degree in ‘History’ and a minor in ‘Government’, this book offers a comprehensive analysis of President Biden’s leadership challenges. Jake Tapper, CNN’s anchor and chief Washington correspondent, adds his respected background to the narrative. Tapper graduated magna cum laude from Dartmouth College in 1991 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in History, modified by Visual Studies, and he received an honorary Doctor of Humane Letters degree from Dartmouth in 2017. However, it’s important to approach this book with skepticism and a critical mindset, especially since it is authored by individuals who do not hold health professional credentials or have experience with health issues. While the book may provide intriguing insights and perspectives, the lack of medical expertise requires careful consideration when assessing its reliability and relevance to real-world health situations.

OPINION: It is truly concerning that Jake Tapper is leveraging CNN’s powerful platform to promote a book that offers “nothing (really) new.” The public has long been aware of President Biden’s health decline due to his advanced age. With this in mind, I encourage you to reflect on whether there was a deliberate attempt to hide the truth or if the staff was earnestly trying to manage a situation that was evident to nearly everyone. Your perspective is crucial for understanding the far-reaching implications of this issue. Moreover, could it be that Jake Tapper has become too attached to his research hypothesis? In the realm of scientific inquiry, it is crucial to remain objective and not overly invested in a single hypothesis or the need to prove it “correct.” The main objective should be to explore and comprehend the issue at stake, even if that requires challenging or adjusting the initial hypothesis based on the evidence gathered. Adopting this perspective fosters a more accurate and holistic understanding of our reality.

Less news (Less noise). More Context.

This brings us to the fundamental point: the classic principle taught in journalism—”When a dog bites a man, it’s just an everyday occurrence, but when a man bites a dog, that’s a story worth telling.” This highlights the need to focus on the extraordinary to capture attention and drive narratives. For example, Trump’s mental state poses a “clear and present danger.” (Dr. Bandy Lee and 27 other psychiatrists).

It is essential to confront the reality that President Trump exhibits mental health challenges, a fact underscored by his attendance at military school due to his father’s inability to control his behavior. This background is not just a footnote; it demands scrutiny of his leadership and decision-making abilities. We must ask ourselves what impact this history has on his capacity to lead effectively.

“THE DANGEROUS CASE OF DONALD TRUMP”: This book features essays from 27 mental health professionals who articulate pressing concerns about Donald Trump’s mental health and the potential risks it poses to our nation. These experts boldly declare that Trump’s mental state constitutes a “clear and present danger.” Led by forensic psychiatrist Bandy X. Lee, the contributing psychiatrists conduct a thorough analysis of Trump’s behavior and public statements, drawing attention to alarming aspects of his mental health that demand our serious consideration.

THE AUTHORS: Bandy X. Lee, the author and editor of “The Dangerous Case of Donald Trump,” brings exceptional qualifications in medicine and mental health to the forefront. With an M.D. from Yale University School of Medicine, obtained in 1994, along with a Master of Divinity (M.Div.) from Yale Divinity School, her expertise is both profound and credible. Lee’s impressive credentials are further strengthened by her medical internship at Bellevue Hospital in New York, her role as chief resident during her residency at Massachusetts General Hospital, and her research fellowship at Harvard Medical School, making her a highly respected figure in her field.

What led to the passing of Dr. Bornstein, the physician for Trump? It’s important to understand the circumstances surrounding his death

In memoriam, 1947-2021, Dr. Harold Bornstein

WHAT HAPPENED: (2017) Harold Bornstein, who served as Donald Trump’s personal physician, passed away on January 8, 2021, at the age of 73. The specific cause and location of his death have not been publicly disclosed, leaving some uncertainties regarding the circumstances surrounding his passing. Bornstein was known for his favorable assessments of Donald Trump’s health. He had previously settled a malpractice lawsuit, paying tens of thousands of dollars, after being accused of causing the death of one of his patients.

‘Political Polarization Salinization’: The ideological divide between Democrats and Republicans

WHAT HAPPENED: It is widely recognized that the polarization of the Republican and Democratic Parties has escalated dramatically over recent decades; they interact but fail to engage meaningfully. This shift is strikingly apparent when we consider the following:

Partisan Differences: The Pew Research Center reveals that the ideological divide between Democrats and Republicans today is the widest it has been in the last 50 years, as both parties have distanced themselves from the political center.

Polarized Sentiments: According to Pew Research, unfavorable views of the opposing party have doubled since 1994, with extremely negative opinions reaching unprecedented levels by 2022. This indicates that partisanship has become increasingly toxic, fostering deep-seated animosity towards the opposing party.

Polarized Behavior: With elected officials becoming more ideologically extreme, the potential for compromise and bipartisan collaboration on important issues has significantly diminished. This growing divide poses serious challenges to effective governance, making it harder than ever for the parties to work together in the interest of the nation.

Congress Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene and her staff did not promptly or adequately read and analyze the ‘One Big Beautiful Bill Act’.

MTG’s POV: “I must be fully transparent: I was unaware of the section on pages 278-279 of the OBBB that strips states of the authority to create laws or regulate AI for a decade. I staunchly oppose this provision; it is a clear violation of state rights, and had I known about it, I would have voted NO.” (Twitter, 6/4/2025)

LIGHT AT THE END OF THE TUNNEL: Many bills are lengthy and packed with complicated legal language, which can make it difficult for Congress members to grasp every detail. This reality leads them to rely on their staff to read, analyze, summarize, and advise them on voting in line with their policy positions. In this instance, Congresswoman Marjorie Taylor Greene and her staff both fell short in their responsibilities. This lack of meticulousness puts her entire office at risk of being unfit for addressing the pressing issues we face today.

To illustrate the seriousness of this situation, consider how physicians who neglect to thoroughly review patients’ records can face malpractice suits if errors lead to harmful outcomes. Physicians can lose their jobs or face revocation of their licenses due to patterns of negligence or severe misconduct.

While the Constitution permits a chamber to expel a member of Congress with a two-thirds vote, the most effective way to remove an ineffective representative is through the ballot box, where voters can decide not to re-elect them. Moreover, various state laws offer mechanisms for removal, including recall elections in certain jurisdictions. It is crucial that we hold our representatives accountable to ensure they are fulfilling their duties responsibly and effectively.

Additionally, it raises the cap on the state and local tax (SALT) deduction, increases the estate tax exemption, and modifies business tax deductions, including the small business tax deduction.

Significant Cuts to Clean Energy Initiatives: The proposed bill will greatly restrict or eliminate many of the clean energy incentives established by President Joe Biden as part of the Inflation Reduction Act. This includes clean energy tax credits, advanced manufacturing tax credits, Environmental Justice Block Grants, and the Greenhouse Gas Reduction Fund.

Significant Investment in Military Technologies: The bill proposes an increase of $150 billion in defense spending. This includes $24.7 billion allocated for the construction of the “Golden Dome” missile defense shield, a project proposed by President Trump. PENCE’S POV: “January 6, 2021, was a tragic day. I believe history will remember it as a triumph of freedom. Thanks to the courageous service of law enforcement, the Capitol was secured. Members of Congress from both chambers and both political parties reconvened that very same day to continue our work under the Constitution of the United States. We were able to witness the peaceful transfer of power as the world watched following the riot that took place. I remember jotting down some thoughts: The world would witness again the resilience of our Democracy.”

THE LIGHT AT THE END OF THE TUNNEL: As the saying goes, “Don’t ever return to the situation you prayed to escape.” President Trump has returned—more aggressive and self-serving than ever. Have you considered the impact of his subliminal messages, or are you choosing to overlook them? With the Midterm elections in 2026 approaching, now is the crucial moment to hold him accountable and rein in his excessive enthusiasm before it’s too late.

A (lethal) campaign slogan suggestion: “A RETURN TO NORMALCY”

“A Return to Normalcy” was a slogan used by Warren G. Harding during his 1920 presidential campaign. There is a persistent rumor that Florence Harding poisoned her husband, President Warren G. Harding. However, this claim is not supported by evidence. Harding’s death was attributed to a heart attack, likely caused by his pre-existing high blood pressure and enlarged heart.

WHAT HAPPENED: The Trump administration’s approach to diversity has generated considerable discussion and controversy. In his second term, President Donald Trump took decisive action by issuing executive orders that aimed to dismantle diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) initiatives within the federal government, arguing that these programs were ineffective and divisive. This move has prompted a critical reevaluation of how diversity is understood and implemented in government policies, emphasizing the need for a balanced approach that truly fosters an inclusive environment.

WHAT HAPPENED: On April 19, 1995, in a shocking act of violence, Timothy McVeigh detonated a truck bomb in front of the Alfred P. Murrah Federal Building in Oklahoma City. This devastating attack resulted in the deaths of 168 innocent people and left hundreds more injured. Striking at 9:02 a.m., the explosion obliterated not only the federal building but also severely damaged surrounding structures. McVeigh, a former soldier, carried out this heinous act as a misguided attempt at revenge against the U.S. government, particularly motivated by events surrounding the Waco siege. This tragedy serves as a stark reminder of the dangers of extremism and the impact of political violence on innocent lives. (Images: Clinton Foundation and City of Oklahoma Instagram)

WHAT HAPPENED: On April 2, 2025, in an address from the White House Rose Garden, Trump proclaimed April 2 as “Liberation Day.” He asserted that this moment was “one of the most significant days in American history” and a bold “declaration of economic independence.” The president unveiled an innovative two-tier tariff structure: a baseline 10% tariff that would uniformly apply to imports from all countries, excluding only Canada and Mexico. Furthermore, he announced additional country-specific “reciprocal” tariffs targeting about 60 nations, aimed at holding accountable those with unfair trade practices. This strategic approach is designed to protect American jobs and strengthen the economy. (Image: AI-Generated)

This misleading portrayal has ignited strong backlash from users, who find it highly offensive. Experts argue that such depictions not only trivialize serious issues but also reinforce a damaging narrative.

The Cabinet (Link)

WHAT HAPPENED: The U.S. presidential Cabinet is a time-honored institution that, while not explicitly mandated by the Constitution, is vital for effective governance. The Constitution (Article II, Section 2) allows the president to seek advice from department heads, but it does not require a formal cabinet. Recognizing the complexities of leading a nascent nation, President George Washington established the cabinet as a trusted group of advisors. This decisive action set an enduring precedent, solidifying the cabinet’s role as a crucial component of the executive branch and ensuring that the president has the support needed to navigate the challenges of leadership. Donald J. Trump – The slash-and-burn policy

The Inaugural Address – The White House (Link, Image: Reuters)

WHAT HAPPENED: The term “slash-and-burn” vividly captures a political strategy that ruthlessly dismantles existing policies and tarnishes reputations in pursuit of specific objectives, often with little regard for the long-term effects. This tactic can appear in various forms, from legislative efforts aimed at reversing essential laws and regulations to aggressive campaign tactics that prioritize harsh negative ads against opponents. While this risky approach may shift political landscapes, we must consider the profound costs it imposes on trust, integrity, and the future of democratic discourse. Choosing a more respectful and constructive path can lead to sustainable change without sacrificing our values.
