Messianic Judaism stands out for its unique blend of Jewish traditions and core Christian beliefs. Although it retains many Jewish festivals and traditions, mainstream Jewish movements continue to regard it as a form of Christianity. The movement gained momentum in North America in the 19th and 20th centuries, largely because of Christian missionary efforts directed at Jews. Messianic Jews believe Jesus is the Messiah and a member of the divine Trinity—positions that firmly align them with Christianity on major theological differences from Judaism. From the perspective of mainstream Judaism, Messianic Judaism is not recognized as a form of Judaism; rather, it is openly categorized as part of Christianity.
